DoomTax is a voluntary commitment device. You set screen-time limits for apps you choose, and you back that commitment with money: a monthly deposit amount that you earn back by meeting daily goals. Money you do not earn back is charged to your payment method and donated to a charitable organization you select. DoomTax is a behavioral tool — it is not a savings product, investment, insurance, gambling, or financial service. Amounts at risk never generate winnings; you can only keep your own money or have it donated.
You must be 18 or older and legally capable of entering binding contracts. One account per person.
3.1 Deposit. You choose a monthly deposit amount. No money is taken when you set it; you authorize us to charge it (in part or full) under these Terms.
3.2 Earning it back. Completing daily goals unlocks a percentage of the month's locked amount, subject to a daily cap shown in the app. Fully unlocked = nothing charged for that month.
3.3 Month-end settlement. At the end of each calendar month, the portion you did not unlock is automatically charged to your saved payment method and designated for donation to the charity you selected (or the default charity if none selected). This is the core of the service and you expressly authorize these charges when saving a payment method.
3.4 Pay-to-extend penalties. When you hit a limit you may voluntarily pay a penalty fee to unlock additional time. Prices escalate with repeated use and are shown before you confirm. Extend fees are penalties within your commitment scheme, not purchases of digital content. Extends purchased while offline are granted immediately and charged when connectivity returns; you authorize these deferred charges.
3.5 Abandonment. If all your devices stop reporting for 7 consecutive days (e.g. you uninstall the app or disable its permissions), your remaining locked amount is treated as forfeited and charged for donation, after a 72-hour grace period. Uninstalling is not a way to cancel; see §7 for how to cancel properly.
Charged forfeit and settlement amounts (less unavoidable payment-processing fees) are donated to the charity associated with your selection, either directly or via a donation platform. We are not affiliated with listed charities. Donations are made by the Operator; you will generally NOT receive a personal tax-deductible donation receipt.
By saving a payment method you grant us a standing authorization (a merchant-initiated transaction mandate via our processor, Stripe) to charge it without further interaction for: (a) month-end settlements under §3.3, (b) offline extend penalties under §3.4, (c) abandonment forfeits under §3.5, and (d) the settlement required on account deletion under §7. Every charge appears in Settings → Payment history. If a charge fails, we retry a limited number of times in accordance with card-network rules; if your bank requires authentication (SCA/3DS), we will ask you to confirm in the app. Charges appear on your statement as DOOMTAX.APP.
The app enforces limits with Android permissions you grant. Circumventing enforcement (disabling permissions, clock manipulation, using unmonitored devices) defeats the purpose of the product you signed up for; we may treat detected circumvention as non-compliance for streak and unlock purposes. We may cap total offline penalties and unsettled balances for your protection.
You may delete your account at any time in Settings → Delete account, or at api.doomtax.app/account/delete. Deletion first settles the current month (§3.3 applies pro rata to what you have not unlocked at that moment); afterwards no further charges can occur and your behavioral data is erased. Payment records are retained as required by law. Simply uninstalling does not cancel (§3.5).
You have a statutory right to withdraw from this contract within 14 days of account creation, without giving reasons. By completing signup you expressly request that we begin performing the service immediately, before the withdrawal period ends.
We go beyond the statutory minimum: if you withdraw within the 14-day period (by deleting your account in the app, using the web deletion page, or emailing support@doomtax.app), we will refund all charges made during that period — including extend penalties — and void your payment mandate. After the 14-day period, cancellation is governed by §7 (deletion settles the current month).
Model withdrawal instruction: To withdraw, send an unambiguous statement to support@doomtax.app or delete your account in Settings. To meet the deadline it is sufficient to send your notice before the 14-day period expires.
Charges under this contract are penalties you pre-authorized, so they are not refundable merely because you regret them. We do refund: (a) anything charged during the 14-day withdrawal window if you withdraw (§8); (b) charges caused by a technical error on our side (e.g. a double charge, or time paid for but not credited); and (c) charges we cannot evidence against these Terms. Contact support@doomtax.app within 60 days of the charge; we answer within 14 days. Nothing here limits your statutory rights or your right to dispute a charge with your bank.
DoomTax is not medical, psychological, or financial advice and is not a treatment for addiction. The service depends on device capabilities and permissions; enforcement may be interrupted by OS behavior, device settings, or outages. To the extent permitted by law, we are liable only for intent and gross negligence, and for slight negligence only upon breach of essential contractual duties, limited to foreseeable, typical damage.
We may amend these Terms with reasonable notice via the app or email. If you do not agree, delete your account before the changes take effect (§7 applies).
German law applies; if you are a consumer, the mandatory consumer-protection rules of your country of habitual residence remain unaffected. The European Commission's online dispute resolution platform is at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr — we are neither obliged nor willing to participate in dispute resolution before a consumer arbitration board.
